If you are a Subject Leader (SL) in Hertfordshire (or elsewhere) there are a wide range of professional development opportunities, training and support to help you available to you from Herts for Learning (HfL).
Each term, we provide a range of training courses for SLs which reflect the current priorities in schools. To find out more visit www.hertsforlearning.co.uk/booking
We run 3-4 day subject leadership training courses targeted at new and existing SLs wanting to enhance their contribution to improving their subject across the school. SLs can gain an in-depth understanding of the expectations of core subject leadership and develop their capacity to evaluate teaching and learning across a range of evidence to drive improvement forward.
For those SLs looking to further develop their leadership skills, a brand new training course will be available from autumn 2016 that will be delivered in five twilight sessions across two terms and focuses upon enhancing leadership practices such as change management and strategic thinking.
HfL provides termly funded SL clusters or network meetings at locations across the county which all core SLs can access at no cost to the school. This provides an excellent opportunity for SLs to keep up-to-date with all the news, issues and developments in the subject they lead.
Within Hertfordshire, most schools also subscribe to the Primary PA Plus (PA+) service which includes a wide range of planning and assessment resources to support teachers in the teaching and learning of English and mathematics (as well as other areas). New from autumn 2016, there will be a Subject Leader Toolkit which will include mathematics and English specific documentation to support the key monitoring and evaluation activities that SLs undertake. Find out more at: www.hertsforlearning.co.uk/content/primary-pa-plus
Schools can also benefit from purchasing teaching and learning consultancy for subject leaders. A Teaching and Learning Adviser works directly to support a core SL in a school to address and embed the school’s priorities. You can request to bring this additional source of subject and phase expertise into your school, enabling you to maximise impact.
HfL also has a select team of leading teachers, for KS1 & 2, who are good and outstanding practitioners in schools, and who provide peer-to-peer support in schools.
